Video

In this post, I will show you how to add SSD to Laptop & transfer the OS to SSD from HDD without reinstalling.

My Laptop Configuration
  • Processor: AMD A10 (Elite Quad-Core)
  • Brand: Lenovo G505s
  • OS: Windows 10
  • Space Before Upgrading: 1TB (HDD)
  • Optical Drive: Yes
To install SSD first remove the Battery & the Back cover of the Laptop

Next, locate the screw which secures optical drive & remove it and then remove the optical drive.

Next, remove all the attachments which are attached to the optical drive

Now measure the optical drive thickness and order the same size caddy

Mine was 9.5mm Caddy Drive (all the link shared are affiliate links)
  • Amazon IND - https://amzn.to/2BsoU4E
  • Amazon US - https://amzn.to/2oLZJaA
  • Flipkart - http://fkrt.it/XsYgUcNNNN

After receiving the Caddy drive install the SSD drive and secure it

I went with WD Green 120GB SSD
  • Amazon IND - https://amzn.to/33KKFIO
  • Amazon US - https://amzn.to/2MvoGQq
  • Flipkart - http://fkrt.it/Xscu0cNNNN

After securing the SSD, attach all the attachment which you removed from optical drive to the caddy drive.

Next, install the caddy drive & secure it with the screw

Next, install the backover & the battery and turn on your laptop & the open the software Macrium Reflect

Now in Macrium Reflect click on "Clone this disk..."

Next click on "Select a disk to clone to" and then select the SSD

Now drag and drop all the partition which contains the system files

Now if there is any unallocated space then select a partition and click on "Cloned Partition Properties" and then click "Maximum Size"

After setting the maximum size click on "Next"

Again click "Next"

Before clicking "Finish" do a final check and then click on "Finish

Next name your SSD and click "OK" which will start cloning the drive

Once the cloning is complete restart your system and enter the BIOS Setup

Now using the arrow key select the SSD & move the SSD to the first and save the setting and exit the BIOS which will make your SSD has the primary disk(C:)

Now if you want to remove the partition which you cloned from, Go to "Computer Management" and select "Disk Management" and delete all the unwanted partition.
